About Morley

Built as a Viking Wappentake, (a town providing services to neighbouring towns and hamlets) Morley remained a small town until the industrial revolution when it became a site for textile mills and nearbycoal mining. The town thrived whilst UK textiles and coal mining were financially viable - tributes to that period are the magnificent Town Hall, the train station and the former cinema and entertainment venue called the New Pavilion.

The town has two Victorian Parks. One contains a skate park and a sports centre, opened in 2010 and also has RUF Club, playing in the National League and a Cricket and Sports club, playing in the Bradford League.

Apart from that the town centre has several cafes and half a dozen good restaurants and wine bars.

By the 1980`s the population had reached 46,000. The amount of housing increased and the town remains the top location for future residential development in West Yorkshire.

All bar one of Morley`s 42 textile mills has closed and the vast majority have been converted into flats and homes, and the population is reaching 65,000 making it the largest population in the Leeds Region.
